Saturday July 20th - the Condor "Liberation" Ferry from Poole to Guernsey

Image
We were up at 4:15 am, in the car by 5 am, and at the Ferry by 5:30. Then a long wait to get on. We took three cars to Guernsey on the Ferry - Mike & Win's car, plus Lawrence & Natalie's two cars. We drove the cars onto the Ferry, and then went to our (assigned) seats in the "Horizon Lounge" (we'd paid a minimal fee to get seats with tables at the front of the ship ..." From their website: Condor Liberation is a sleek and efficient high-speed trimaran, and the newest addition to our fleet. Liberation entered service in March 2015, the first of its kind to operate in Northern Europe, carrying up to 245 cars and 880 passengers between the UK, Jersey and Guernsey. Friday July 17th - Driving to Poole and Overnight at the Travelodge Hotel

Image
On Friday, we drove down to Poole. We had a 6:30 am Ferry from Guernsey on Saturday morning, and while, 6 months ago when we got the Ferry tickets,  Mike & Win had initially planned to leave Northampton at 1 am Saturday morning for the drive down, I suggested that we look and see if we could find a cheap hotel to spend the night - particularly since our family would finally be starting to get used to the time difference and it didn't seem so great to be so off schedule.  We found a cheap hotel - the Travelodge Poole, and booked 3 rooms Natalie drove one of the three cars down - I was in her car along with Andrew and Carys Carys and Andrew (with eyes closed) Carys and Andrew (with a creepy face) The travelodge was pretty basic, but good enough The reception area where we waited while the others checked in. I didn't take any pictures of our room, but here's a picture from the web that looks pretty much the same - two single rollaway bed...

Tuesday - Thursday July 15, 16

Image
Not much happened ... we landed Tuesday morning and my wasp sting was starting to look worse, so we stopped at the Boots Pharmacy in the airport and I bought two different creams.  Tuesday we also went to a shopping center and got Phone SIMMs which was shockingly quick and easy (Mostly because Red had done a lot of research ahead of time). This trip we're with a company called "Three" I managed to stay awake for the entire day Tuesday which is unheard of for me! My wasp sting got a lot worse before it got better. Wednesday I was reasonably worried I might have to see a doctor, and so I started taking Bennadryl every 6 hours and  Mike suggested that his doctor had said we could get good advice from the local pharmacist. So I walked into Moulton and the Chemist had a reassuring sign in the door. The pharmacy assistant told me it was fine and I was reassured more when the pharmacist herself came over and asked if she could touch it (without gloves!!)  They both told me t...

Flying

We flew from Newark to Heathrow. Here's some pictures I took as we got on the plane: I whatsapped them to Natalie, who sent back the following message:

Getting Ready to Leave

Image
We left on Monday July 15th in the evening. Throughout the day we had a bunch of last minute things to get done. I mowed the lawn, and I also cleaned out both of the garage fridges, so now we won't have to pay for keeping them cold the whole time we're away... Earlier in the week I took some time to go online and look at the Tesco supermarket website so that I could select some stuff that Natalie could order ahead of time to have around for us for me and my finicky children to eat, and so we didn't have to pack big things like shampoo, etc. Unfortunately, while taking the trash out I was stung by a wasp. On the positive side, however, one of the cherry tomatoes on our plant was ripe before we had to leave it, and I saw both an inchworm and a fuzzy caterpillar.
